Programme Objectives

Participants will be provided with a detailed overview of Personal Safety issues, statistics re personal safety, reasons for concern and relevant cases.  Common Law and Employer and Employee duties within Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005 will be explained.  In addition the following issues will be covered: developing a policy, identifying hazards and assessing risks, hazard management, training and clear procedures.  The following topics will also be discussed: working alone, interacting with public, reporting incidents and near misses and issues specific to participant's work.

Training Approach

The training approach in this course is through a combination of:

Lecture - to impart information (particularly about health and safety law and typical dangerous scenarios)

Specific Cases re people working alone - e.g. Suzy Lamplugh case etc. - to clearly discuss real cases and their outcomes

Scenarios and Risk Assessment Exercise - to allow participants to discuss and review typical scenarios and learn the skill of risk assessment

Development of an Action Plan - to encourage participants to apply the learning back at their workplaces

Opportunity for Questions - questions and queries are welcomed throughout the day.  It is extremely important that the information is "internalised" by the participants they need to clarify issues and scenarios for themselves.
