  • - Principles of Treatment
  • - The Nervous System
  • - Head Injuries
  • - Shock, Fainting, Unconsciousness
  • - Patient Approach, Examination of Casualty, Recovery Position
  • - Asphyxia and its causes
  • - Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation practical
  • - AED training
  • - Examination of the eye, Treatment of foreign bodies and
  • - chemical splashes
  • - Poisoning
  • - Burns and Scalds, Corrosive injuries, Chemical splashes
  • - Blood and the circulation, Wounds and bleeding, Control of bleeding
  • - Dressings and bandages- application, including improvisation
  • - Fractures - causes, types, signs and symptoms
  • - Sprains, strains and dislocation
  • - Crush injuries - General rules for treatment
  • - Handling and transport including improvisation
  • - Dressing and bandaging fractures
  • - Epilepsy, Asthma and Diabetes - definition, causes, treatment

 

Training Method:

Group Orientated to include lectures, formal talks and demonstrations coupled with hands on practical use of equipment, CPR and Wound dressing. These are didactic in nature and place a strong emphasis on the trainer's expertise and knowledge of the subject matter

 

Participant Profile:

Employers are required to have a number of certified Occupational First Aiders in the workplace to administer first aid as required by the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the (General Application) Regulations 2007. The number of First Aiders required is specified in the HSA Guidelines.

Our selected trainers have been full-time professional fire fighters/Paramedics for the past 12 years. Over the past 5 years they have been involved in teaching a variety of course's within the private sector. They have a wide range of qualifications ranging from confined space's training to marine emergency rescue and are considered leading instructors in fire training.

Assessment Method:

Ongoing assessment throughout which is Instructor verified. Emergency First Aid Kits - contents, Revision - theory and practical. Final Examination

 

Certification:

FETAC level 5 certification and Cardiac first responder accredited by PHECC (Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council). Valid for 2 years.
