Modern motor vehicles rely heavily on electrical equipment. This is more true today than ever before and systems relating to the engine, gearbox, brakes, door locking, windows and sunroof as well as various comfort and convenience systems, instrumentation and passive safety equipment are all fundamentally reliant on electricity for their correct functioning. When something goes wrong with one or more these systems and it is taken to a car dealership or garage for repair the likelihood is that the person charged with repairing the vehicle will be a qualified Motor Mechanic. It is also likely that the Motor Mechanic has had little or no training in Diagnosis and little or no training in Testing or Repairing Electrical Systems. This can lead to a poor or incorrect diagnosis and a poor quality of repair, which in turn leads to an expensive repair and increased downtime and the possibility of needing more than one visit to the garage. The Customer is dissatisfied, the Mechanic is disillusioned and the Garage loses profits.
Europa Academy has designed a training programme aimed at Motor Mechanics who wish to enhance their skills in the areas of:
The aim of this training programme is to provide Mechanics with the necessary competence and confidence to make a correct diagnosis quickly and to then make a top quality repair and ensure the conformity of the system before returning the vehicle to the customer.
The Auto Diagnostic Technician Training Programme aims to raise the level of professionalism among Motor Mechanics working in a role that increasingly calls on them to be skilled in diagnosis and repair of automotive electric and electronic systems.
The practical approach taken in the design and content of this 11-day course will ensure that participants are developed to achieve measurable improvements in their dealership performance.

This module provides the participant with the underpinning knowledge of basic electrical notions required to progress on to the other training modules. This training takes place both in the classroom and in the workshop and uses practical demonstration equipment in order to reinforce the theory studied.
Duration: 2 days
During this module the basic electrical notions learned during in module 1 are applied during the study of common electrical systems. Using the electrical test equipment on real electrical systems the participants learn how to use wiring diagrams to locate components, test wiring and test electrical component conformity.

This module teaches the participants how to apply a systematic approach to diagnosing faults that will result in an efficient use of time and resources in order to fault find quickly and effectively. This module is almost entirely based in the workshop using diagnostic tools and wiring diagrams to practice the complete diagnostic process on vehicles with simulated electrical system faults. The emphasis in this module is on correct application of a systematic approach to faultfinding and correct use of the diagnostic tooling and documentation.
Duration: 3 days
This module takes the knowledge and skills learned in the first three modules of this programme and applies them to Comfort and Convenience and Safety system such as, central locking systems, electric windows and sunroofs, entertainment and multimedia systems, satellite navigation systems, intelligent wiper and lighting systems and airbag systems.
Duration: 3 days
The assessment will consist of a written exam to assess knowledge learned and a series of practical tests in a simulated dealership environment. Judges will be observing from a distance and will award marks based on how the participant deals with a particular simulated customer situation.
Duration: 1 day including 45 mins written exam and 4 practical tests of 45 mins each.
