Prof. Alan Hooper (UK) - University of Exeter

Alan Hooper (DL MA FRSA) is the Founder and a Fellow of the Centre for Leadership Studies, University of Exeter (the first such university-based Centre in UK). He is also a Visiting Professor at Bristol Business School. He consults widely on leadership and change-management, and is a much sought after speaker on Leadership, based on his practical leadership experience, authorship, consultancy and business school lecturing.

Alan Hooper was educated at Uppingham and joined the Royal Marines in 1960. He obtained an MA in Politics from Exeter University in 1979 and published The Military and the Media (Gower, 1982). He is also joint author with John Potter of The Business of Leadership (Ashgate, 1997), Intelligent Leadership: Creating a Passion for Change, (Random House, 2000) and Developing Strategic Leadership Skills (CIPD, 2005).

Alan was the Deputy Director, Centre for Management Studies, University of Exeter from 1990-93 and became the Programme Director for the University's Postgraduate Diploma/MA in Leadership (the only course of its kind in Europe) in 1992.

He was the Founding Director of the Centre for Leadership Studies at Exeter from 1997-2002 and is now a Fellow. Alan is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a non-executive Member of Western Provident Association Ltd, a member of the CIPD Advisory Board of Experts and the Europa Academy Advisory Board. He is also a Deputy Lieutenant of Devon.
