Ireland is a country of rich variety and contrast and Fingal area reflects this diversity, from the vibrant towns, the tranquil rural retreats to the sandy beaches, rugged coastline and peninsulas.
Swords boasts an abundance of shops, restaurants and pubs. The main attraction in the town, Swords Castle, was built from 1183 onwards to serve as an administrative centre (even then!) for the first Norman Archbishop of Dublin.
The area north of Swords is rural in character, with an unspoilt landscape and low population density it contrasts greatly with the bustle of the nearby city of Dublin. It has numerous sites of archaeological and historic interest and is in close proximity to the major heritage sites of the Boyne Valley.
Along the coastal corridor are small picturesque villages and towns. Both Balbriggan and Skerries to the north, boast working harbours, historic buildings, and beaches and coastal walks. The Donabate Portrane Peninsula enjoys no less than six golf courses and two of the finest and safest beaches in the area.
Sport and leisure are important elements in the area and there is an abundance of top quality facilities and amenities to satisfy the passions of both competitive and casual sports people.
